An amino acid derived from brown sugar. It activates the immune system and increases protein synthesis, helps heal eliminate excess ammonia and is a precursor to nitric acid (vasodilation) anti-inflammatory with moisturizing effects. Enhances the skins circulatory system (vasodilator). Encourages collagen production and increases elasticity. It is a larger molecule so no irritation occurs. Excellent for sensitive skin.
Pyruvic acid is found naturally in honey, apples, fermented fruit and vinegar. This peel is known to penetrate rapidly and deeply through the skin, stimulating collagen, elastin and dermal glycoprotein synthesis. It is a proven treatment for many dermatological conditions such as acne, superficial scarring, photoaging and pigmentary disorders.
It is an alpha hydroxy acid which stimulates cell turnover and cell renewal at a higher rate with less irritation. Lactic Acid has added benefits: it hydrates the skin, increases natural ceramides (barrier lipids) in the epidermis and whitens the skin when used at concentrations greater than 5%.
When applied to skin, citric acid can slough off dead skin cells and speed new cell turnover. The latter promotes new skin growth that can help alleviate the appearance of age spots, acne scars, small wrinkles and areas of uneven tone and texture. Side effects of citric acid use on the skin include slight burning, tingling, and temporary redness.
Kojic Acid is a powerful skin-brightening agent naturally derived from an array of organic materials. It is widely advocated as a healthier alternative to harsh bleaching agents, like Hydroquinone, which can ultimately wreck havoc on the skin’s delicate pigmentation process. Additionally, the AHA Kojic Acid Peel contains an extensive range of exfoliating agents such as Glycolic and Lactic Acid that can aid in the recovery of acne conditions.
Hydroquinone should be used for several months to adequately treat hyperpigmentation & dark areas of the skin. Treatment duration largely depends on the response, avoiding the sun & using appropriate sunscreen to help minimize skin darkening. Depending on the cause of hyperpigmentation, sometimes the dark areas return once patients discontinue hydroquinone. The treatment has to be used for a longer period.
This alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) is named after the german word for almond (Mandel). Mandelic acid is derived from the hydrolysis of an extract of bitter almonds. This peel is usually recommended for those with sensitive skin and darker skins. This works as an antibacterial and as a mild exfoliant, stimulating collagen synthesis and new cell generation. It is useful in suppressing pigmentation as it has a lightening action. It is also used to treat noncystic acne and rejuvenating photoaged skin.
